About us.
Who? What? Wherefore? Whence?
Welcome to our home!
We started our new life under the Oak and Apple on New Years Day 2016. The time had come to shake up the puzzle pieces and fit it all together afresh. We hoped to create a home for our family, an escape for friends, and a nexus of ideas and understanding for our community; a place that we might all grow into a deeper wisdom about those things that are essential to a good life and a healthy community.
Under the Oak and Apple, we strive to craft a sanctuary to welcome our friends and neighbors -- a break-out room from the collisions of modern discourse. They drop into our weekly cycle of life -- to dine with us, to explore the petit miracle quotidien that is the garden, to listen to great music (!), to share in the otherworldly peace of Shabbat. Amid the simple, everyday creativity from our hands and hearts, we discover the deep veins of meaning and connection in the world from our small corner of the West.
Sobremesa. This Spanish idiom evokes the considered, involving conversations after a good meal — the unhurried intimacy of listening, as we converse with and are inspired by our friends, old and new. The pop of one more bottle of wine. A game of boules.
We hope you’ll join us! You’re always welcome under the Oak and Apple.
